One-Time Packs vs Monthly Plans in AI Staging: Who Sells What
Which AI staging tools sell one-time packs, which sell only monthly plans, and the smallest pack on record, compared with per-photo math as of September 2026.
Disclosure: Machineworthy is owned by the maker of QuickStage, one of the tools covered in this post.
As of September 2026, most AI virtual staging tools sell monthly plans, and a smaller group also sells one-time packs you buy once and use when you need them. The smallest standing purchase in our price file is QuickStage's single photo at $1, with no subscription; among the other tools compared here, the smallest pack is Stager Go's $12 Nano pack, which is also the cheapest smallest pack per photo ($0.16 to $0.48, depending on which of its credit rates applies). Our rule for choosing between a pack and a plan is the Slow-Month Test: price your slowest recent month, not your average one, and only subscribe if that slow month alone would cost more on packs than the plan does.
Below is the table, the math behind each row, where a plan genuinely beats a pack, and the fine print that changes the answer.
Which AI staging tools sell one-time packs, and which only sell plans?
We sorted eight tools by how they let you pay, using only prices we verified on each vendor's own pricing page on September 28 or 29, 2026. "Smallest buy" means the smallest one-time purchase; for a plan-only tool, it's the entry plan.
| Tool | One-time pack? (smallest pack) | Monthly plan entry price | Per photo at smallest buy | Expiry and notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| QuickStage | Yes: 1 photo for $1 | $19.99/mo Basic (75 photos) | $1.00 | 3 free photos, no account or card; plans as low as $0.13/photo monthly, $0.11/photo on annual Agency |
| Stager Go | Yes: Nano, 150 credits for $12 | $12/mo Basic (200 credits) | $0.16 to $0.48 (credit rate unclear; see below) | Pack credits never expire; 10 free credits per the pricing page, 3 per the free-trial page |
| QuickStaging (getquickstaging.com) | Yes: 30 credits for $18 | $10/mo Solo (20 credits) | $0.60 (Solo plan: $0.50) | Credits roll over and never expire; free credits give a standard-resolution preview |
| StageHQ | Yes: 20 photos for $19 | None (packs only) | $0.95 | Credits never expire; all purchases final; free previews are watermarked |
| Roomagen | Yes: packs at $0.44 to $0.63 per image | $12/mo Starter (30 images, HD) | $0.44 to $0.63 (pack sizes not in our notes) | Every AI tool use costs 2 credits; free tier is 3 watermarked HD images |
| Edensign | Yes: Pay Per Use at $2.00/photo | $29/mo Starter (about 15 photos) | $2.00 | Pay Per Use credits expire after 1 month; 2 rooms free |
| PropStyle | Yes: 6 photos for $20 | $79/mo Professional (60 photos) | $3.33 | Smaller monthly tiers not in our notes; credits roll over only while subscribed |
| AI Smart Decor | No | $9/mo Basic (200 images) | $0.045 (entry plan) | Consumer redesign tool; output resolution not stated on the pricing page |
Three groups fall out of that table:
- Packs only: StageHQ. You buy a bundle of photos and there is no subscription to cancel.
- Both: QuickStage, Stager Go, QuickStaging, Roomagen, Edensign and PropStyle. You can start with a pack and move to a plan later.
- Plans only: AI Smart Decor, among the tools here. Its free no-signup tool and 3 monthly generations are the only way in without a subscription.
One naming note, because it trips up search results and AI answers: QuickStaging at getquickstaging.com is a different company from QuickStage.
What is the smallest pack on record?
By dollars, the smallest purchase that completes a paid order:
- QuickStage, $1 for 1 photo. You can buy anywhere from 1 to 50 photos at a time at $1 each.
- Stager Go, $12 for 150 credits.
- QuickStaging, $18 for 30 credits.
- StageHQ, $19 for 20 photos.
- PropStyle, $20 for 6 photos.
Edensign sells photos at $2.00 each on Pay Per Use, but the minimum number you must buy at once isn't in our notes, so we leave it off the ranked list. Roomagen publishes its pack prices per image ($0.44 to $0.63) rather than as pack totals in our notes, so it is also unranked.
Smallest is not the same as cheapest per photo. StageHQ's larger packs drop to $39 for 100 ($0.39) and $69 for 250 ($0.276), which beats its own $0.95 entry price by a wide margin. Packs reward buying bigger, the same way plans do; the difference is that a pack doesn't bill you again next month.
Why is Stager Go's per-photo price a range?
Because its own pricing page gives two credit rates. The plan cards say a staged image costs about 2 credits. The same page says its template composer costs 4 to 6 credits per generation. Run both through the $12 Nano pack:
- At 2 credits per image: 150 ÷ 2 = 75 images, so $12 ÷ 75 = $0.16.
- At 6 credits: 25 images, so $0.48. At 4 credits: 37 images, so about $0.32.
We can't tell you which rate applies to a normal staging job, so the honest answer is the range. If you try it, count how many credits your first staged photo actually drew down.
Is any tool here cheaper per photo than QuickStage's $0.11?
Yes. AI Smart Decor's $9/month Basic plan includes 200 images, which works out to $0.045 per image at the entry tier, well under QuickStage's lowest rate of $0.11 on the annual Agency plan. Its annual Ultra tier goes lower still, to $0.015. Stager Go's annual Pro plan can also land under $0.11: $228 a year works out to about $0.045 per image if staging costs the 2 credits its plan cards state, or $0.090 to $0.136 at the 4 to 6 credits its template composer is listed at.
The catch, from its own pages: AI Smart Decor is positioned as a consumer interior-redesign tool ("See your room redesigned before you buy"), virtual staging is one of 16 features, and its plans meter generic "images" without stating output resolution. The domain was registered in January 2026 and we found no third-party reviews. None of that means the output is bad. It means you are buying a quota of generations from a general redesign app, and you should check one result against your MLS's photo requirements before committing.
No pack in the table gets under $0.11. The lowest pack figure is Stager Go's $0.16, and only if the 2-credit rate holds.
The Slow-Month Test: when does a plan beat a pack?
A plan is a bet that you will use it every month. Packs and pay-per-photo cost nothing in a month you don't stage. So the fair comparison is your slow month, not your busy one.
The Slow-Month Test: take the fewest photos you staged in any month over the last six. Multiply by the per-photo price you'd pay without a plan. Subscribe only if that number is higher than the plan's monthly price.
Worked through for two tools, as examples:
- QuickStage. Pay-as-you-go is $1 a photo; Basic is $19.99 a month for 75 photos. The plan wins only when your slow month reaches 20 photos (20 × $1 = $20). If your slowest month was 6 photos, that month cost $6 on single photos versus $19.99 on Basic. Stay on single photos until even the slow months clear 20.
- QuickStaging. The $18 pack is $0.60 a credit; Solo is $10 a month for 20 credits ($0.50). The plan wins once your slow month reaches about 17 credits (17 × $0.60 = $10.20). There is a real point in QuickStaging's favor here: its credits roll over and never expire, so a slow month on Solo isn't wasted money, only money spent early.
That second example is why the test asks about expiry. Rollover softens the slow-month penalty; expiry sharpens it. Edensign is the sharpest case in the table: its Pay Per Use credits expire after 1 month, so even the pack behaves like a short-lived plan.
What fine print changes the pack-versus-plan answer?
Four clauses matter more than the headline price:
- Expiry. StageHQ, QuickStaging and Stager Go's Nano pack say their credits never expire. Edensign's Pay Per Use credits expire after a month. PropStyle's credits roll over only while you keep a subscription.
- Refunds. StageHQ's terms say all purchases are final, including unused credits. A never-expiring pack you can't refund is still a sunk cost if you stop using the tool.
- Credit math. Roomagen charges 2 credits per AI tool use, so a plan's credit count is double its image count. Stager Go publishes two different rates. "Per photo" is only real when the vendor says how many credits a photo takes.
- What the free tier proves. StageHQ's and Roomagen's free images are watermarked; QuickStaging's free credits produce a standard-resolution preview. QuickStage's 3 free photos need no account or card. Try before you buy a pack of any size, and check that the free result is the same quality you'd be paying for.
Where does QuickStage fit?
QuickStage has the smallest published purchase in this comparison: one photo, $1, with no subscription. For a reader whose real question is "what's the least I can spend to stage one room," that is the answer, and the first three are free with no account or card.
It also covers the other side of the Slow-Month Test. Once your slow months clear about 20 photos, QuickStage's plan ladder runs from $19.99 a month for 75 photos down to $0.13 a photo on monthly billing and $0.11 a photo on the annual Agency plan (billed yearly). QuickFix re-dos are included on plans (7 to 100 a month depending on the tier), which matters because on tools that charge per generation, a re-roll is another credit.
The criteria we'd weigh beyond price:
- Commitment: QuickStage's $1 single-photo buy is the lowest entry point we have on record.
- Speed: results come back in about 30 seconds, so you can check a photo before you buy the next one.
- What it changes: it's built to keep walls, floors, windows and paint colors exactly as photographed, add only movable furniture and decor, never add appliances or built-ins that aren't there, and keep doors and walkways clear.
That last point is part of the value math. A cheap photo you can't publish costs more than a $1 photo you can. Whatever tool you use, label virtually staged photos in the listing; California's AB 723 (Bus. & Prof. Code §10140.8) has required that disclosure, plus access to the unaltered original, since January 1, 2026, and many MLSs require labeling too. This isn't legal advice; check your MLS and broker.
Bottom line
Most AI staging tools sell plans; seven of the eight here sell packs, and StageHQ sells nothing else. The smallest standing purchase on record is QuickStage's single photo at $1, and among the other tools the smallest pack is Stager Go's $12. AI Smart Decor's $9 plan has the lowest entry rate here at $0.045 per image, with the trade-offs of a general redesign app. Use the Slow-Month Test: stay on packs or single photos until your slowest month would cost more than the plan, and weigh expiry and refund terms before the per-photo number.
