Which AI staging tools refund unused credits? Terms compared

We read the refund and credit-expiry lines on eight AI virtual staging tools' own pages as of October 2026. Four say purchases are final; one offers a guarantee.

Disclosure: Machineworthy is owned by the maker of QuickStage, one of the tools covered in this post.

Most AI virtual staging tools will not give your money back once you've paid. As of October 2026, four of the eight competitor tools compared here say on their own pages that purchases are final or that refunds aren't offered; one promises a money-back guarantee, one has a 7-day money-back window, and two don't state a cash refund policy at all. The safest move is the same at every tool: test on your own photos for free, then make your first payment the smallest one the tool sells.

Every cell in the table below comes from a vendor's own pricing, FAQ or terms page as captured in our pricing notes, checked October 19 or 20, 2026. Where our notes don't include a refund line, we say "not stated in our dated notes" rather than guess.

What each tool's own page says about refunds

We sort every policy into one of five buckets. This is Machineworthy's own sorting, not an industry standard:

  1. Final. The terms rule out refunds, or say they're generally not given.
  2. Window. Refunds are possible inside a fixed number of days.
  3. Guarantee. The vendor advertises a money-back guarantee.
  4. Discretionary. Credits for bad results "may" come back, at the vendor's call.
  5. Silent. Nothing on the pages we checked says either way.
Tool What its page says about refunds or unused credits Credit expiry or rollover, if stated Source
StageHQ Final: all purchases are final, with no refunds for any reason, including unused credits or dissatisfaction Credits never expire StageHQ terms
InstantDeco Final: its terms call charges "generally considered final" and say refunds are typically not processed Not stated in our dated notes InstantDeco terms of service
Interior AI Final: its FAQ says it cannot offer refunds Not stated in our dated notes Interior AI
REimagineHome Final: the pricing page's FAQ data says no refunds for cancelled paid plans Not stated in our dated notes REimagineHome pricing
Virtual Staging AI (virtualstagingai.app) Window: refunds only under a 7-day money-back policy; a yearly plan is a full-year commitment Unused photo credits don't roll over, on monthly or annual plans Virtual Staging AI FAQ
Pedra Discretionary: a thumbs-down on a bad result may return the credit; a cash refund policy is not stated in our dated notes Not stated in our dated notes Pedra pricing
PropStyle Guarantee: a 100% money-back guarantee on paid plans; the conditions and time limit are not captured in our notes Unused credits roll over only while a subscription is active PropStyle
RoomStaging Silent: not stated in our dated notes Unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle RoomStaging pricing
QuickStage Window: email a request within 7 days of your most recent charge; refunds are reviewed and prorated by unused credits Pay-as-you-go credits never expire; plan credits reset monthly QuickStage terms, effective October 16, 2026; expiry from its pricing page

Two entries carry a caveat. Our notes mark Interior AI as partial because its month-to-month prices weren't captured; the refund line itself was. Virtual Staging AI is also partial: some enterprise pricing seen in September wasn't visible on the October 19 recheck. Its refund and rollover lines come straight from its FAQ, which points to section 8.2 of its terms for the 7-day policy. We did not read that section's full text.

StageHQ's never-expire line comes from its pricing page, not the terms.

Why "all purchases final" matters more than the per-photo price

A no-refund clause turns your first payment into the price of finding out whether a tool works on your rooms. That's a fair trade when the first payment is small and a bad one when it's large.

Here's what the smallest or entry purchase looks like at the tools above, using the exact figures in our notes, as of October 2026:

  • StageHQ: $19 one-time for 20 staged photos. Final, but the credits never expire, so a pack you don't love today is still usable in six months.
  • Interior AI: $29/mo billed yearly, which is $349 upfront for 1,000 designs a month. With a no-refunds FAQ, that's $349 committed before you know whether its output suits listing photos. Its cheapest tier is also labelled "Low quality renders" on its own page.
  • Virtual Staging AI: Basic is $25/mo monthly or $16/mo billed yearly ($192/yr). The 7-day window protects you only if you act inside it, and the FAQ describes a yearly plan as a full-year commitment.
  • InstantDeco: Basic is $14/mo monthly or $10/mo annual for 8 photos. Small, but its terms treat it as final.
  • PropStyle: $20 one-time for 6 photos, backed by an advertised money-back guarantee. The guarantee is the most buyer-friendly line in this set, though we haven't captured its conditions.

The gap between $19 at risk and $349 at risk is the real comparison. Per-photo math on an annual plan only matters after you know the tool fits your work.

Where unused credits go when you stop

Refunds and expiry are two separate questions. A tool can refuse refunds and still let you keep what you bought, and a tool can offer refunds and still wipe your balance monthly.

Read the expiry line next to the refund line:

  • Credits that never expire (StageHQ, and QuickStage's pay-as-you-go credits) make a no-refund pack less painful. You lose flexibility, not value.
  • Credits that reset each cycle (RoomStaging, Virtual Staging AI, and QuickStage's monthly plan allowance) mean a quiet month is money spent on nothing. That's a fair design for a subscription, as long as you size the plan to your slow months.
  • Credits that survive only while you pay (PropStyle's rollover) mean cancelling forfeits the balance. Use it down before you cancel.

In practice, the worst combination is a final sale plus a monthly reset on a large annual plan. You can't get the money back, and anything you don't use each month disappears.

What QuickStage's terms say, and what they don't

QuickStage is in the table on the same terms as everyone else. Its current terms, effective October 16, 2026, say:

  • You can cancel any time from the billing portal. Cancelling stops future renewals, and remaining credits stay active through the end of the current billing period.
  • You request a refund by emailing support within 7 days of your most recent charge. Requests are reviewed and prorated by unused credits across the billing term. If approved, the refund is processed and the subscription cancelled.
  • Sending a request doesn't cancel the subscription by itself.
  • Past the 7-day window, the terms say to email anyway and QuickStage will try to make it right. That's a promise of effort, not a refund right.

So QuickStage sits in the Window bucket, with proration. It is not an advertised money-back guarantee like PropStyle's, and you should read it that way.

The bigger protection is structural. QuickStage lets you stage 3 photos free with no account and no card, so the first test costs nothing. After that, pay-as-you-go is $1 a photo with no subscription, and those credits never expire. Your first paid purchase can be a single dollar. Monthly plans start at $19.99 for people who already know they'll use them, and the lowest rate, $0.11 a photo, is on the annual Agency plan billed yearly. Nobody should buy that tier first. Check the $1-a-photo pay-as-you-go option on QuickStage if you want to see the ladder.

How to buy so a refund policy never matters

A refund clause only matters when you've overpaid for a tool you haven't tested. These six steps keep you out of that spot at any vendor:

  1. Find the terms page and note its date. Save a screenshot or PDF of the refund and credit sections on the day you buy. Terms change, and the version in force when you paid is the one you'll want to point to.
  2. Put the policy in a bucket. Final, Window, Guarantee, Discretionary or Silent. If it's Silent, email support and ask before you pay; a written answer is better than nothing.
  3. Read the expiry line. Never expires, resets each cycle, or survives only while subscribed.
  4. Use the free tier on your hardest photos. StageHQ gives 3 free watermarked previews with no card, RoomStaging 3 free credits with no card, and Pedra 7 image credits with no card, as of October 2026. Upload your own dark, cluttered or wide-angle rooms, not the easy ones.
  5. Keep the first payment small. Buy the smallest pack or one month, never the annual plan, until the tool has staged a full listing you'd publish.
  6. Set two calendar reminders. One a day before any refund window closes, one a few days before the renewal date. A 7-day window protects no one who notices on day 9.

Whatever tool you pick, label the staged photos as virtually staged and keep the originals. That has nothing to do with refunds, but it's the part that keeps your listing honest.

Bottom line

As of October 2026, four of the eight competitor tools compared here treat purchases as final, and only one advertises a money-back guarantee. Refund policy is the backstop, but the first purchase is where your money is actually at risk, so the fix is to test free on your own rooms and make the first charge as small as the tool allows. QuickStage's terms give a 7-day prorated refund window, and its structure means you rarely need it: three free photos, then $1 at a time with no subscription and no expiry.

Stage three of your own photos free on QuickStage before any tool gets your card number, no account or card needed.
