Slow, normal, busy: what a quarter of AI staging costs

For example, 5, 40 and 150 photos over three months: quarter totals on five AI staging tools and QuickStage, subscription vs pay per photo, as of October 2026.

Disclosure: Machineworthy is owned by the maker of QuickStage, one of the tools covered in this post.

For example, take a quarter of 5, 40 and 150 staged photos (195 in all). As of October 2026, a QuickStage subscription sized for the busy month costs $119.97 for that quarter, paying $1 a photo costs $195.00, and a mix of the two (pay per photo in the slow month, a plan in the other two) costs $64.98. Across five other AI staging tools, the same quarter runs from $69 to $237, and one prepaid pack beats QuickStage's mix by $2.88 if you use its discount code.

The slow month drives the spread. A plan sized for 150 photos bills in full when you stage 5, and on most plans the unused credits reset. Below: every option, every step of the math, and where another tool is cheaper.

How we priced the quarter

Machineworthy's rule for uneven volume is the quarter divisor:

Quarter cost per used photo = everything you paid in three months ÷ every photo you actually staged in those three months.

A slow month can't hide inside a busy one. The assumptions:

  1. Volumes are a for-example. Slow month: 5 photos, about one small listing. Normal month: 40. Busy month: 150. Total: 195. Swap in your own counts; the method stays the same.
  2. Month-to-month billing unless a row says annual, since it's the only billing you can stop when work dries up. Annual rows use the yearly charge ÷ 12 × 3.
  3. One credit per staged photo at base settings. Re-dos and higher resolutions cost extra on some tools, noted below.
  4. Two subscription paths. "All quarter" picks the smallest tier that covers the busy month and keeps it for three months. "Right-sized" picks the smallest tier for each month's count, which assumes you can switch tiers between billing cycles. Check a tool's billing terms before you count on that.
  5. Prices only from each vendor's own pages, checked October 19 or 20, 2026, with nothing rounded for or against anyone. Totals are to the cent; per-photo costs to three decimals.

The tools: Restagely, REimagineHome and Virtual Staging AI (subscriptions), StageHQ and QuickStaging (prepaid packs whose credits never expire), and QuickStage, which sells both a subscription and a $1 pay-per-photo option. QuickStaging, at getquickstaging.com, is a separate company from QuickStage despite the similar name.

What does each option cost for the whole quarter?

Prices as of October 2026. "Unused" means credits paid for but never used.

QuickStaging, two $45 packs (100 credits each) $45.00 $0 $45.00 $90.00 $0.462 5, never expire

Ranked by quarter total: QuickStage mix ($64.98), StageHQ ($69.00), Restagely ($87.00), QuickStaging ($90.00), REimagineHome right-sized ($91.00), QuickStage Pro annual ($99.75), REimagineHome all quarter ($108.00), QuickStage Pro monthly ($119.97), QuickStage pay per photo ($195.00), Virtual Staging AI ($237.00).

Show the math: how each row adds up

  • QuickStage pay per photo: 195 photos × $1 = $195.00.
  • QuickStage Pro all quarter: $39.99 × 3 = $119.97. Allowance 225 × 3 = 675; 675 - 195 = 480 unused. $119.97 ÷ 195 = $0.615.
  • QuickStage Pro annual: $399 ÷ 12 = $33.25 a month, × 3 = $99.75. $99.75 ÷ 195 = $0.512.
  • QuickStage mix: $5.00 + $19.99 (Basic, 75 photos) + $39.99 (Pro, 225 photos) = $64.98. Unused: (75 - 40) + (225 - 150) = 110. $64.98 ÷ 195 = $0.333.
  • Restagely Solo: $29 × 3 = $87.00. (200 × 3) - 195 = 405 unused. $87 ÷ 195 = $0.446.
  • REimagineHome all quarter: $36 × 3 = $108.00; $108 ÷ 195 = $0.554. Right-sized: the $19 tier's 30 credits cover 5 photos, so $19 + $36 + $36 = $91.00, with (30 - 5) + (200 - 40) + (200 - 150) = 235 unused. $91 ÷ 195 = $0.467.
  • Virtual Staging AI: $948 ÷ 12 = $79.00 a month, × 3 = $237.00. (150 × 3) - 195 = 255 unused. $237 ÷ 195 = $1.215.
  • StageHQ: one $69 pack covers 250 photos; 250 - 195 = 55 left. $69 ÷ 195 = $0.354. With the STAGE10 code the site advertises, the pack is $62.10, or $0.318 per used photo.
  • QuickStaging: one $45 pack in month one (100 credits) covers 5 and then 40, leaving 55. The busy month needs 150, so a second pack brings you to 155, and 5 are left after. $45 × 2 = $90.00; $90 ÷ 195 = $0.462.

Does a plan sized for the busy month waste the slow one?

Yes, and the slow month is where most of the gap comes from. Divide each plan's monthly charge by the 5 photos staged that month:

  • QuickStage Pro: $39.99 ÷ 5 = $8.00 per photo, with 220 of 225 credits reset unused.
  • REimagineHome $36 tier: $36 ÷ 5 = $7.20 per photo.
  • Restagely Solo: $29 ÷ 5 = $5.80 per photo.
  • Virtual Staging AI Enterprise on annual billing: $79 ÷ 5 = $15.80 per photo.

The same 5 photos cost $5.00 at a dollar each on QuickStage's pay-as-you-go option, and the credits you buy that way don't expire. That is the whole case for the mix: the slow month drops from $39.99 to $5.00, a $34.99 saving, and the plan only runs in the months that fill it.

The normal month matters too. At 40 photos, QuickStage Basic ($19.99 for 75) costs less than both Pro ($39.99) and pay per photo ($40.00). The break-even for Basic against $1 a photo is 20 photos ($19.99 ÷ $1), so any month of 20 to 75 photos belongs on Basic. Under 20, pay per photo. From 76 to 95, Basic plus a dollar each for the overflow costs no more than Pro, since 75 + 20 extra photos is $19.99 + $20.00 = $39.99. Above 95 and up to 225, Pro.

Annual billing is a different trade. QuickStage Pro billed annually drops the quarter from $119.97 to $99.75, but it commits you to $399 for the year and still bills the slow months. In this example quarter, the mix ($64.98) beats it by $34.77.

Where is another tool cheaper than QuickStage?

Three places, stated plainly.

StageHQ with its discount code beats every QuickStage path in this quarter. One $69 pack of 250 photos, $62.10 with STAGE10, against QuickStage's best path at $64.98. Without the code, StageHQ ($69.00) is $4.02 more than the mix but cheaper than any single QuickStage plan kept all quarter. Its credits never expire, so the 55 left over carry into the next quarter. The catch, from StageHQ's own terms: all purchases are final, with no refunds for any reason, including unused credits or dissatisfaction. Its free trial gives 3 watermarked previews, so you judge quality on marked-up images before you pay.

Restagely Solo ($87.00) beats QuickStage Pro kept all quarter ($119.97) because its 200 credits cover even the 150-photo month at $29. The catches: no free plan, only a 7-day trial; Solo output is capped at 2K, and 4K needs the $99 tier and up; and video and slideshow work draws from the same credit pool as staging. If your busy month tops 200 photos, the next tier in our notes is $99.

QuickStaging's packs ($90.00) beat QuickStage Pro kept all quarter and never expire. Its free credits produce only a standard-resolution preview, so you can't check full-size output before buying.

Two notes on the others. REimagineHome's figures are the prices its page renders ($19, $36, $59 and $119 for 30, 200, 400 and 900 credits), but the page's code also advertises "$14-$99/mo" with larger allowances; which figures apply after month one is unverified. Its $19 Essential tier excludes high-resolution output, and every regeneration costs a credit. Virtual Staging AI's notes are partial: its four annual plans were confirmed October 19, 2026, but month-to-month prices above the $25 Basic plan aren't in our notes, hence the annual row. Its FAQ says a yearly plan is a full-year commitment and unused credits don't roll over.

What else belongs in the comparison besides price?

Price per used photo is one input. Three more matter.

  1. Re-dos. A miss that costs a fresh credit raises your real per-photo rate. Every QuickStage plan includes QuickFix re-dos: 7 a month on Basic, 20 on Pro, 50 on Studio and 100 on Agency. In the mix above, the normal and busy months come with 27 QuickFix re-dos between them.
  2. Trial before you commit. QuickStage gives 3 free photos with no account or card, about 30 seconds each, so you can test your hardest room before choosing a path.
  3. Whether the output is listing-ready. QuickStage is built to keep walls, floors, windows and paint colors exactly as photographed, to add only movable furniture and decor, never to add appliances or built-ins that aren't there, and to keep doors and walkways clear, with top-quality, photorealistic results. Whatever tool you use, label every virtually staged photo in the listing.

Steady volume favors plans. QuickStage's rate falls to $0.133 per photo on Agency ($199.99 a month for 1,500 photos) and $0.111 on Agency billed annually ($1,999 a year), but only if you use the allowance every month. You can see the full plan ladder on QuickStage.

How do I run this for my own quarter?

  1. Pull your staged-photo counts for the last three months.
  2. For each month, price the cheapest way to cover that month alone: pay per photo, or the smallest plan that fits.
  3. Add the three months. Then price the "one plan all quarter" version and compare.
  4. Divide each total by the photos you actually staged. That is the number to compare across tools.
  5. Before buying a prepaid pack, read its refund terms.

For QuickStage alone, the rule of thumb from this example: under 20 photos in a month, pay a dollar a photo on QuickStage; 20 to 75, Basic; 76 to 95, Basic plus $1 photos for the overflow; 96 to 225, Pro.

Bottom line

For this example quarter of 5, 40 and 150 photos, the cheapest QuickStage path is the mix at $64.98, about 33 cents per used photo, and it beats every subscription in this comparison kept for a full quarter. StageHQ's prepaid pack is $4.02 more at list price and $2.88 less with its code, with all sales final. Keeping a busy-month plan through a slow month is the expensive mistake: $39.99 for 5 photos on QuickStage Pro, $8.00 each, where pay per photo costs $5.00. Size each month to its own volume and let pay-per-photo cover the quiet ones.

Try three photos free on QuickStage, no account or card, then price your own quarter.

Frequently asked questions

Is a staging subscription worth it if my volume changes month to month?

Only in the months that fill it. In our example quarter of 5, 40 and 150 photos, keeping QuickStage Pro all quarter cost $119.97, while paying $1 a photo in the slow month and using Basic, then Pro, cost $64.98 (prices as of October 2026).

Do unused virtual staging credits roll over to the next month?

It depends on the tool. QuickStage plan credits reset every month, while its $1 pay-as-you-go credits are permanent. Virtual Staging AI's FAQ says unused credits don't roll over; StageHQ and QuickStaging packs never expire.

How many photos a month before a QuickStage plan beats paying $1 per photo?

About 20. Basic costs $19.99 for 75 photos, so from 20 photos a month it costs less than $1 each. Under 20, pay per photo is cheaper.

What is the cheapest way to stage 195 photos over three uneven months?

In our October 2026 example, StageHQ's $69 pack of 250 photos with its STAGE10 code ($62.10) was lowest, then QuickStage's mix at $64.98. StageHQ's terms make all purchases final, with no refunds for unused credits.

Should I pick a staging plan for my busiest month?

Usually not. A plan sized for the busy month still bills in full in the slow one: QuickStage Pro costs $39.99 in a 5-photo month, which is $8.00 per photo staged.
